 Born Dorothy Marie Marsh on October 11, 1932, just outside McMinnville, Tennessee. The family at the time was so poor, they made their own soap out of hog grease and lye. The house also consisted of no electricity and no indoor plumbing. West's childhood was marred by a dysfunctional relationship with her father, an alcoholic who abused her both physically and sexually. The abuse continued until she was 17, when she finally reported him to the local sheriff. She testified against her father in court, and he was sentenced to 40 years in prison. On September 4, 1991, West was killed in a car accident on her way to a performance at the Grand Ole Opry. Kenneth Ray "Kenny" Rogers was born August 21, 1938, in Houston, Texas. He has been married five times. His fourth wife was the actress Marianne Gordon Rogers. His current wife is the former Wanda Miller. He has a daughter and four sons, including twins born while Rogers was 65.
